Front Post Cluster (FPcl) Crochet Stitch

I love textured stitches.  Front post stitches are by far my favorite, but clusters are up in the top 5.  When I was designing my Little Pumpkin Beanie, I wanted to use post stitches, but they didn’t seem thick enough for what I wanted the hat to look like.  So, I decided to put the two together.  This stitch may be out there, but I’ve never seen it before, so I decided to do a tutorial to help you out.

Step 1:  yarn over (yo), insert hook, from front to back, behind next stitch (the same way you do for a post stitch)

Step 2:  yo, pull up a loop (you will now have 3 loops on hook

Step 3:  yo, pull through 2 loops on hook (2 loops will be remaining)

Step 4:  yo, insert hook behind same post

Step 5:  yo, pull up a loop (you will now have 4 loops on hook)

Step 6:  yo, pull through 2 loops on hook (3 will be remaining)

Step 7:  yo, pull through 3 remaining loops

You have now made a Front Post cluster (FPcl).  You can also repeat steps 4 – 6 for a 3 part cluster. Let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Crocheting!

  • Thank You!!! I was confused until I read your instructions. Cause my pattern book said after the second hooking from front to back around post I would have 3 loops on hook. I actually had four as your instructions said. What a relief. Thank You…..

  • I am looking for a square pattern with pineapple design using fpdc and bpdc . It was a very pretty pattern. But now I am unable to get the pattern on net. Could you pl help.
