Tunisian Sampler Scarf CAL – Part 1

To kick off the CAL we’re going to begin with one of the basic stitches of tunisian crochet. It’s called the tunisian simple stitch (TSS), but it is also known by a few different names. Here are a few:

  • TSS – tunisian simple stitch
  • afghan simple stitch
  • tunisian basic stitch

Let’s begin…..

Section 1 – TSS

ch 20,

Row 1:  crochet in back ridge of beginning ch (see fig.1), insert hk in 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop, *insert hook in next ch, yo, pull up a loop, repeat from * across leaving all loops on hook (see fig. 2). (20 lps on hk)

To complete row 1: yo, pull through 1st loop on hook, * yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * across.

Row 2:  skip 1st vertical bar (directly below loop on hook), * insert hook under next vertical bar (see Fig. 3), yo, pull up a loop, repeat from * across to last bar, insert hook through both loops of last stitch (see Fig. 4). (20 lps on hk)

 To complete row 2: yo, pull through 1st loop on hook, * yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * across until there is 1 loop left. (see Fig. 5)

Row 3 – 12:  Repeat Row 2.
