I have been facinated by mandala crochet for quite some time now, so I thought I would delve into the tradition and learn a little more about it.
The word mandala actually means circle. According to Wikipedia, “mandalas often exhibit radial balance.”
Mandala’s aren’t always crocheted, but give a creative artist some colorful yarn and a hook and they can be beautiful. I think this is the first picture I ever came across of crocheted mandalas. Aren’t they beautiful?
Can you imagine how much time went into each one of those?
There is also a crochet technique that you can use to create a gorgeous, colorful mandalas. It’s called crochet overlay.
OH MY WORD!!! That is gorgeous! Don’t you agree?
What do you think? Too much work? Or totally worth the effort?
Stunning!
Definitely worth the effort. They are beautiful!
Totally worth it!!!!!
I don’t know how much work it would take without a pattern – but I suspect the answer is “lots”!
These are among the most beautiful artworks I’ve ever seen. Amazing.
…. and then you go and frog it all….
I read about mandalas first in a spiritual practices class. It would love to create one to use for my quiet times and faith practices.
I think they are gorgeous! I would totally tried it if I had a pattern or some kind of direction on how they are done. Love them!
Mandalas are beautiful and intriguing, I think.
I think those are great how do you do them
I’ll be working on a post to show more detail on how they’re made. Thanks for asking! Keep on the lookout.
would like to know if you have any mandala patterns to be printed now, would love to do it. Thanks
Hi Jean,
I don’t have any mandala patterns, but if you do a search on Ravelry you will find some very nice ones.
I think they are gorgeous and I want to make them and I submitted the post to Stumbleuponon!
Thanks, Karen. I’ll be working on a pattern for everyone soon!
They are absolutely gorgeous! I would definately do it. How do we get a pattern?
Where was the first picture taken?
Amy,
I’ve added the links. Just click on each picture and it will take you to the site I got the pictures from. I apologize for not doing that to begin with.
They are Gorgeous. When I get better at crocheting, I would LOVE to try this.
I would love a pattern structure for these.
Is there a pattern for the one pictures above? LOVE IT
I don’t have any patterns. Sorry, Carly.
Worth it! I’m going to make some for the floor of my brick and mortar. :-)
Am aflat aceasta pagina, dupa ce am cautat despre What is Mandala Crochet?
pe Google. Se pare ca informatia dvs e foarte valoroasa, mai ales ca am mai gasit aici si despre ora, ora exacta, lucruri interesante si folositoare.
Mult succes in continuare!
I would love to see some 2 and 3 colored afghan patterns for the advanced crocheter, but do not like crocheting pieces together. I don’t care for the granny square look or the quick crochet. I want a pattern that is solid but elegant. I have crochet multiple afghans, but never make the same pattern twice. I am having a hard time finding patterns that are of solid weight. I do not like patterns with all the loose open spaces. Any idea where I can find some good patterns?
Have you tried Ravelry or Etsy?
Working on a mandala now. Not easy but worth the effort. These are beautiful.
They are a LOT of work, but so beautiful when they’re completed.
There are loads of patterns for “Mandala” crocheted items. I recently got one from Pintrest for an afghan done with Mandala circles. While I did spend a LOT of time on it, I made it for an “Auction” fundraiser for our church (for playground eqpt.). High bid brought $420. So it definitely was worth it. I will do another, when I get the next 3 projects on my list finished!
When I was playing around with the idea, I made small ones – 2-3″ and put them on hats for decoration – wow!
I want to make one. But still can’t decide which colors and patterns I am gonna take. Too awesome… too hard to decide, lol.
