Crochet Pink Review

It seems like everyone has, in one way or another, been affected by breast cancer. If it hasn’t affected us directly we either know someone, or have heard of someone who has won or lost their battle. So often we want to be able to help but don’t know how. Martingale’s newest book is Crochet Pink and it offers practical gifts that you can make for either someone who is suffering, or their caregiver.

The author, Janet Rehfeldt, added quotes throughout to offer inspiration and awareness. She has also included a list of other cancer awareness colors for those with other forms of cancer. There is yarn help if you need to substitute for something she used, as well as stitch help and other guidance. The book is very well laid out and you will find yourself thinking about all the projects you can make for your loved ones.

My personal favorite is the Wandering Rib Neck Cozy and Wrist Warmer Set. I love texture! Add that to the fact that my favorite project(s) to make for myself are cowls/scarves and wrist warmers and it’s the perfect project for me. I will be making it in dark blue, in memory of my father, who I lost to colon/intestinal cancer on Christmas Day 2013. I’ll make sure to show you the project when I’m done.

There are so many more projects to choose from 26 total! Here are a few of my favorites.

  • Just beautiful… :) Love the look of the patterns… If I were to win this pattern book, I would make some items in it for two of my closest friends. Both surviors of breast cancer. Connie is a 2 year survivor and my Gina is a 7 year survivor.

  • My mother had breast cancer twice, eleven years apart. Luckily, that’s not what killed has as she was only in her sixties when she got it the first time. My mother’s sister died of breast cancer that was so advanced the cancer went into her brain and she had a very sad final year of suffering.

  • Such an awesome array of projects. I would definitely make the wrist and neck warmers for my daughter who survived cervical cancer. Pink and precious. Nothing better than that. Thank you for this chance to win a copy of Crochet Pink.

  • OMG, I would make thing in there for me! Pink is my most favorite color. I’m 48, but still where alot of pink!!!!!

PINK, PINK, PINK,PINK I love it lol

  • I would love to make my mother a few of these items. She is battling breast cancer for the 2nd time and my great grandmother who is in her 80’s now is battling lung cancer for the 3rd time.

  • Wow! This book looks packed full of great ideas. I have been crocheting my way through the chemo side effects. I have been “paying it forward” to other chemo patients by making hats for our cancer center, fundraising for hospice and for relay for life. I would love to make these projects as well

  • My mother’s coworker and very good friend is fighting it right now. So hard to watch! I love all of the designs!

  • These items are beautiful!! I normally don’t like the color pink, but the more I keep looking at these items, I realize they’re so beautiful because they ARE PINK!!! And they’re all so beautiful because of the craftsmanship of the stitch, the style, and the feel! I LOVE THEM!! I’ll never look a the color again without smiling!

  • What a lovely book and heartfelt way of supporting our friends and loved ones through their battle with breast cancer. If I were to be fortunate enough to win this book, I’d first make the neck warmer for my best friend who is now 5 years cancer free. It was a long and difficult journey to go through but I went to every single surgery, doctor’s visit and follow up visits with her. I was even willing to shave my head if she lost her hair. I would also like to crochet some of the items in this lovely book and donate them to our hospital for those women going through their own cancer journey, Thank you for the opportunity to win this beautiful book. • If I won this book of patterns I probably would make things to give away to some of the people who I know and don’t personally know who have or had cancer or even to their caregivers. I personally was a caregiver to both of parents from 2006-2012 who had cancer until their deaths. Nobody knows what a caregiver really goes though until they become one. I wouldn’t trade the time I spent taking care of my parents for all the money in the world, the knowledge that they died knowing how much I loved them and would freely take care of them , I felt I was doing what God wanted me to do too.

  • I would make one of these patterns in honor of my sister who past away from throat cancer two years ago. She has battled breast cancer and won 15 years earlier.

  • Personally, I don’t have anyone in my life who is fighting cancer right now but my grandmother, grandfather, and aunt have all fought and won. I love doing pieces for charity; especially my local hospitals.

  • I see so many things to make for numerous ladies in my life who have fought breast cancer. But I want to gift my sister for her courageous battle with lung cancer that spread to her brain, shoulder and hip. She is my true hero!

  • I would make something for a dear friend who has the very bad kind. Brac something. She has been such a trooper. I love her so much.I also had a cousin who died with breast cancer. It was very sad because she was not very old. Her sister died of leukemia. It has been hard losing such dear relatives, and I hope nothinng happens to my dear friend so I would love to make something for her. Would deeply appreciate winning the book.

  • I would make something, not sure what since all of Janet’s designs are amazing, for a very good friend of mine. She’s been through so much, then just when things seemed to be going good she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

  • I LOVE the slippers and shawls! My dearest friend is in last stages of liver cancer so I would make them to honor her in green.

  • How beautiful! I would love to make the shawl for my sister in law. April 29,2013 she had a double mastectomy and followed by chemo. I wanted to crochet an afghan for her, for her hospital stay and to bring home. Something to cuddle in when she didn’t feel good. Unfortunately that did not happen because I am and have been (15 months now) confined to bed with a horrible bladder disease. Most days I can’t do anything but sit and cry. I hated myself for not being able to do this for her. I was able to get a small Lapghan made but it took me 8 months to get it done. I was embarrassed that it took me so long to complete.

  • I would love to win and will make something to a couple of friends that are survivors and some other for a mom of a little one that is fighter.

  • Unfortunately my neighbour and a good friend has just been diagnosed with breast cancer :( she’shaving a surgery next week. Hope she’ll get only better now <3 and she's a crocheter too :) would love to make her this lovely vest.

  • My mother-in-law died in 1965 from Lymphoma, which had resulted from the breast cancer surgeries and radiation treatments she had endured in the early 40’s. Today, now that I am retired, I make prayer shawls and chemo hats for cancer patients. It is my small way of memorializing her life and the fantastic way she raised her 3 sons, the youngest of which is my husband.

  • I would love to make some of these for my Sister. I also have a friend who just had breast cancer surgery and is taking radiation treatments. I’d make her something so lovely to know just how precious she is.

  • i would love to make3 some of these for a friend of mine Debbie brown ,, who,s cancer has spread again lol

  • I am so sorry about your father, i must have mussed that in our influenza insanity. ((kristine))
I unfortunately know too many fighting this battle. Would love the book. Thanks for doing a giveaway!

  • I would make something for my niece who is fighting breast cancer. After a miscarriage she found a lump in her breast. She has finished chemo, had a double mastectomy and just finished radiation. Her hope is to carry a child full-term. She is only in her mid-twenties. I think she will like both the vest and the scarf w. fringe!!

  • I would make some projects and donate them to our local hospital specializing in the treatment of breast cancer. My condolences on the passing of your father.

  • I would love to make at least one of the items for my mum. She has overcome cancer and I would like to give her something to celebrate this. She’d had major surgery to remove a cancer the size of a melon and on the same week my gran who has Alzheimer’s moved into their house. She has injured so much and helped me so much I would love to give her something to say thank you.

  • I would make that pretty scarf for Stacy, the mom of one of the students in my son’s 7th grade class. Stacy just got her diagnosis and will be starting chemotherapy within the next few weeks. Please keep her in your prayers.

  • I would make something for my sister-in-law who is a breast cancer survivor. She is very dear to me, especially since I lost my sister 16 years ago – she was also a breast cancer survivor. My sister-in-law’s favorite color just happens to be pink, too. I’d be thrilled to win this as it looks like there are great patterns in there.

  • 2013 I lost 3 Aunts to cancer and would be crocheting for them. Loved these patterns they are beautiful and full of love and hope.

  • Thank you for this lovely book. I’ve never won anything in my life and I thrilled to win.

I intend to start crocheting as soon as the book arrives. My goal will be to complete as many patterns as I can and donate them to our cancer treatment hospital for all women going through their own difficult journey and battle with breast cancer. My first piece will crocheted for my dearest friend who is now 5 years clean from cancer.

I feel honored and pleased that my name was chosen and I won’t let this great opportunity to give back and pass it on pass me by.

    My deepest heartfelt thanks,
    Bobbie :)
