Tunisian Crochet for Baby – Book Review
Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge fan of Tunisian crochet. I’m not sure whether it’s because I love the look of knit but don’t know how to use needles, or if it’s because it is just a totally different look, feel, and fabric but still made with a hook. Either way, I was super excited to be given a copy of Sharon Silverman‘s new book Tunisian Crochet for Baby to review, which will also include a giveaway courtesy of Stackpole Books.
The first thing I noticed was the book draws you in with the great photos of the projects. (My first couple times through all I did was look at the pictures.) There are 16 projects in the book, but some projects have more than one pattern to them. (Ex: the christening set has the dress, bonnet, and booties but it is 1 project.)
All the patterns have symbols charts if you prefer that to reading a pattern. In addition to those there are color photographs of unique or unusual stitches which are actually right in with the pattern and not in the back of the book. (From someone who likes visuals, this was an excellent idea in my opinion.)
When you get to the back of the book there is a techniques section which is all color. Yay! (I love color photos.) I reviews basic crochet stitches (for the beginner) and then gets into the Tunisian stitches, color changes, how to read the crochet charts, and more.
There are many more that I loved, but I don’t want to spoil all the surprises. Head to Stackpole Books and look through the preview. I would love to know which is your favorite.
Happy Crocheting!

I have been wanting to learn how to do this and really want to try the checkerboard blanket :)
I really like the sherbert blanket and hat….love the look I think I will look into learning the tunisian stitch…….
Only one? I dig the skirt. I’ve made a few, and would love to try a different way. Looks like it could easily made frilly looking on the bottom as well.
Wow there are too man just to have one favorite pattern. I want to make the cocoon and hat first. I could use these patterns for my charity groups as well.
I especially love the Sherbert Stripes Blanket and Hat pattern. The christening set is also a favorite of mine!
The Spring Poncho and Turban really take me back to when I was in high school and since I am visiting my sister in my old hometown during homecoming weekend–I thought it appropriate to vote for these! They are really cute and I like they way the poncho has varigated and matching solid yarn and the turban in the varigated yarn. So sweet! Susan K., TX
honeycomb pullover!!
Washclothes & Nursery Box!
That Favorite Skirt looks like it would make a great cowl, perhaps with a few more stitches added to the base chain! I love that square hat and would make those to donate to ClickforBabies.org
I love the Christening Gown but don’t have any babies to make it for, so I guess I’d have to say my favorite is the Checkerboard blanket
Harlequin Afghan. Love the colors too.
