Colorburst Afghan Square

Anyone who has purchased my patterns, or been around here for a while, will know that I love clusters. If you’re knew to my blog….I love clusters! I try to incorporate them into many of my patterns. So, when it came time for me to design this square I knew I wanted to somehow use the cluster stitch. I chose muted tones. Whether you’re looking to create an afghan square with scraps, or just choose a few of your favorite colors, this square will be bursting with color.

SQUARE

With Buttercup, ch 40.

Row 1: Cl in 5th ch from hook (skipped ch 4 counts as dc and ch 1), *sk next 2 chs, (dc, ch 1, cl) in next ch, rep from * across to last 2 ch, sk next ch, dc in last ch, turn. (12 cl, 12 ch-1 sp, 13 dc)

Note: I did a “skip ch 1” at end of row instead of ch 2 like the rest of the pattern so the corner wouldn’t curl up. Ch 2 was too much space.

See notes for color sequence.

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), cl in sp bet first dc and cl, *(dc, ch 1, cl) in next ch-1 sp, rep from * 10 times, dc in 3rd ch of beg ch 4, turn. (12 cl, 13 dc, 12 ch-1 sp)

Row 3–20: Repeat Row 2.

Fasten off.

Border
