Yarn Challenge 2010

>I just found this great challenge on futuregirl.com. She challenged herself to not buy any craft supplies for the entire year of 2009. She gave herself a budget of $2 a month ($24 for the year) in case there was something she absolutely needed to finish a project. She did it!!! She only spent $5.66 the entire year! This inspired me. I have so much yarn. The first thing I tend to do when starting a new project is to go to the store (without even looking to see what I already have). I then buy something for the project, maybe a little extra – so I don’t run out, and then if there’s something good on sale I’ll pick that up too.  This is how my stash has accumulated over the years.

So, here’s my challenge to myself. I’m going to try to not buy any yarn or crochet books for the entire year of 2010. I’ll allow myself a budget of $5 a month – but no more than $50 for the whole year. I’ll re-evaluate this in a month or so, but for the moment I’m not going to include sewing in this challenge. I just started sewing again after 20 years, so there may be things I need that I don’t have. If I tend to be buying sewing things to make up for not being ‘allowed’ to by crochet items then I’ll have to include sewing in this.

So far this year, the only things I’ve bought was some crochet cotton for my friends dishcloths. I don’t normally crochet with cotton, so I would have needed to go buy these anyway. Basically, I’m starting off great :).

Do you have a challenge you’ve given yourself for 2010? I’d love to hear others. It’s going to be interesting to see if I can stick to it.

  • >Thanks for joining in on the destash-along!I admire your will power to only use your current yarn stash and books. I'd love to try and do that as well, but it gets a little tough when AC Moore has Vanna's Choice yarn 2 for $5.00! :)

  • >Oooohhh! I need to do this too! My stash takes up most of my side of the closet, and a few more bags and baskets around the room. Thankx for the inspiration. And good luck.
