FPdc Scrubby & Dishcloth – Free Crochet Pattern

A scrubby & dishcloth – the perfect pair. Both are a great way to practice any new stitch. This free crochet pattern set is made with the FPdc (Front Post double crochet), which makes it both extra durable and full of texture.

Scrubby & Dishcloth


Finished Size:

  • Scrubby – approx. 3”
  • Dishcloth – approx. 10”


Yarn: #4 worsted weight
Sample used: Sugar ‘n Cream Cotton

  • Summer Prints (MC) – 1 ball
  • Robin’s Egg blue (CC1) – 1 ball
  • White (CC2) – scraps/approx 2 yds


Hook Size: Size G (4.0 mm)


Notions: Yarn Needle


Gauge: Not important for this project


  • Do not turn work at the end of rounds. Pattern is worked with RS facing for the whole pattern.  
  • Beg ch 3 is always the first st in the increase spaces.

Special Stitches: 

Front Post double crochet (FPdc) – yo, insert hook from front to back and to front again around the vertical post (upright part) of next st, yo and draw yarn through, yo and complete dc.

Scrubby

Round 1 (RS): With CC2, ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped 3 chs count as 1st dc), ch1, *2 dc in same ch as previous dc, ch 1, repeat from * 4 more times, slip stitch in top of beg ch-3, change to CC1, DO NOT TURN (see Notes). (12 dc, 6 ch-1 sps)

Round 2 (RS): With CC1, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPDC around next 2 dc, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next ch1 space, FPDC around next 2 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch 1, slip stitch to top of beg ch-3.

Round 3 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPDC around next 4 dc, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next ch1 space, FPDC around next 4 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch 1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.


Border

With CC2, attach with slip stitch to any stitch, sc in each stitch around, work (sc, ch1, sc) in each ch-1 sp.





Dishcloth

Round 1 (RS): With CC1, ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped 3 chs count as 1st dc), ch 1, *2 dc in same ch as previous dc, ch 1, repeat from * 4 more times, sl st in top of beg ch-3, change to MC, DO NOT TURN (see Notes). (12 dc, 6 ch-1 sps)

Round 2 (RS): With MC, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 2 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 2 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 3 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 2 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 4 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 4 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 3 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPDC around next 6 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 5 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 4 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 8 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 6 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 5 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 10 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 7 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 6 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 12 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 8 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 7 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 14 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 9 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 8 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 16 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Round 10 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), FPdc around next 9 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, FPdc around next 18 dc, repeat from * around, dc in last ch-1 sp, ch-1, sl st in top of beg ch-3.


Border

With CC1, attach with sl st in any stitch, sc in each st around, work (sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 sps.

  • FPdc dishcloth pattern has errors. In Rnds 3-10 the 1st number of FPdc’s should be the same as the FPdc number after the *. Other than that it is a really pretty pattern.

    • Hi Ana,
      The join isn’t in a corner after the first round, so the stitch count starts less and then you finish the round on that same side to get the same number of stitches as the other sides. (Hopefully that makes sense and clears up any confusion.)
