Yarn Diet + Food Diet = Incentive Program

For those of you that don’t know, this year I put myself on a yarn diet.  The only time I’m allowed to buy any yarn is if I need it for a specific project.  Why you might ask?  I’ll show you……

Now you know why I put myself on a yarn diet!  At the beginning of the year I organized and put all my stash in one location, and this is what I came up with.  I’m embarrassed to say this isn’t all of it.  I thought hubby was going to be really upset….he just laughed and said he wasn’t surprised!  Anyway, for some reason, the number of buckets isn’t decreasing.

Problem #2….I gave birth to 5 children in 8 years.  Don’t get me wrong, I love them, and if given the opportunity I’d do it all over again.  I love how close in age they are.  The problem is I have about 30 lbs. I’d like to lose.

This morning I came up with a solution.  An incentive program if you will.

For every pound I lose I get to buy a skein of yarn! YAY me!!! LOL (I’ll only go to the store once a month to avoid temptation)

For every 10 pounds I lose I get to add an additional skein to my purchase.

For every bucket I empty I get to make a batch of cookies, brownies, whatever. ;)

What do you think?

  • I support you a thousand percent in your goals. If you could see my knitting room, you'd be appalled at the yarn I have accumulated. I think you have come up with a workable solution for the stash loss and weight loss. The big key for me is that I can't beat myself up. I have to allow myself to feel like a cookie once in awhile or that steak instead of non-red meat.If I fell down and bought out Joann's sock yarn – oh, well, I'll use it for scarves and shawls. No beating myself up!!! My goal is to feel great about myself everyday whether I've lost the weight or not, and how grateful I am that I have family, friends, and the will to set a goal and work toward it.Blessings and best wishes. Hang in there and know that you are supported.Jeannie

  • Wow!! I am so jealous of your stash! I would be in yarn heaven! But I know what you mean. You have all the yarn and when you want to start a new project the one you need isn't there! Good luck with your yarn diet!Samantha

  • I Love your yarn stash! My boyfriend and I just recently moved into a new apartment, and between my yarn and his tools we decided our next move should have an extra bedroom!! Those two things took us the longest to move (the sad thing is, I'm only 25, but I started crocheting at least 5 years ago and I can't stop!!)
