New Year for a New You – Day 2

As the new year approaches and this year comes to a close, I keep wanting to say “I’m so glad this year is over” but then I stop myself. Yes, this year was hard…..really hard! But I believe that if you take what you’ve been through, and learn and grow from it, you can move forward with greater momentum than just starting next year with that “being done” mentality. I want more than that for my personal life and my business. I’m ready to start fresh because of what this year has taught me. (See the difference in perspective?!)

The one thing I did for my business this year was join The Luminaries Club. Lisa is the one coach I have found that talks like she’s a friend in my living room and knows that each business evolves differently so she teaches from a perspective of moving forward towards your goals, not “do A, B, and C” and you’ll be #1 in your industry.

As this year comes to a close I want to truly evaluate my year, what has worked and not worked, and use that self-reflection to plan for a better year in 2016. This week I am working through the Your Best Year 2016 planner from Lisa Jacobs. My favorite part about her planner is that she knows that a creative person cannot separate their personal life from their business, so she incorporates them both into one planner.

For this entire week she has some writing prompts that will walk through a review of the year and plan a business strategy for next year. While this doesn’t necessarily pertain to crochet, I will be making some changes to my business in the coming months (don’t worry it will still be 100% crochet), but I want to use this review process to help you understand where I am going with my business and why.

DAY 2 QUESTIONS FOR REVIEW:

    1. What was time wasted this year? Worrying what others think. Too much time on social media.
    2. What was money wasted this year? Money for crochet classes that I thought would broaden my knowledge. They were only a waste of money because I never watched the classes because I didn’t have make the time.
    3. What was the biggest challenge you faced this year? Time management – which always seems to be my biggest challenge. I am ready to change this in 2016!
    4. If anything, what would you change about how you handled that challenge? I’ve noticed I spend a lot of time thinking about how I can better manage my time, but don’t implement any of them, and if I do they’re short lived and I don’t stick with it.
    5. Are you ending the year with any unfinished business? I do have some patterns that still need to be finished and published. I also have an editing project that I am currently working on for a publisher, but that should be done before the new year.
    6. Are there any outstanding goals you’d like to let go of? Many….The biggest two are: I was so close to my weight goal, and then I had knee surgery and have gained all my progress back.
    7. What was your worst setback in 2015? Too much planning, not enough doing. I need to implement the “just do it” motto and stop waiting for it to be perfect before I attempt it.
    8. Which bad habits or unhealthy patterns did you engage in that you’d like to give up once and for all? I have been slowly trying to be more organized in my personal life (it’s a work in progress), but I would like to break the bad habit of working well under pressure and be a little more organized in my business so I don’t have to cram at the deadline.
    9. What or whom held you back this year? Did anything make you shrink into yourself or feel defensive about your dreams? Lack of confidence held me back this year. So, I decided about a month ago that CONFIDENCE will be my word of the year for 2016.
    10. How did you hold yourself back this year? Which beliefs | ideas | excuses stopped you from pushing forward? A few years ago I started to withdraw from my blog figuring everyone else was starting crocheting blogs, and I started to feel like there was too much competition. I felt like everyone else had more time to spend on their business than me, and I slowly started comparing their progress to my business. What I didn’t realize until this year is that 1) I had my own voice to share and 2) I needed to find my own niche and not do things for other people.
