Oversized HHDC Scarf – Free Crochet Pattern

Looking for warm and cozy? This oversized hhdc scarf will keep you warm even on the coldest days. And by using super bulky yarn it will work up in no time.

Finished Size: 5.5″ wide x 84″ long


Yarn:  Red Heart Grande – #6 super bulky

  • 3 – 5 oz. skeins (92 yds total)


Crochet Hook: Size P/Q (15 mm)


Abbreviations

ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
hhdc – herringbone half double crochet
yo – yarn over

Special Stitches: 

  • Herringbone Half Double Crochet (hhdc) – yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull loop through both the stitch and the first loop on hook, yo, pull through 2 loops.


Notes: If you would like to use less than 3 skeins of RH Grande there are 2 options. You can either start your beginning chain with less than 100. (Ex: If you start with 80 chains your scarf will be approx. 67″) OR Use a different brand/style yarn. (Ex: You would probably only need 1 or 2 skeins of Hometown USA).



Oversized HHDC Scarf Pattern


Ch 100.
Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hhdc in each ch across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, hhdc in each st across, turn.

Rows 3 – 5:  Rep Row 2.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
