Free Star Spangled Hat Crochet Pattern
The Star Spangled Hat uses intarsia crochet to graph out the colors of the American Flag. By switching colors mid row you are able to create the blue for the star field and the stripes. Then get a few star beads and sew them onto the blue star field.
Use cotton so it can be worn in more than just winter. Perfect for cooler climates or cool spring days and nights.

Yarn: Hobby Lobby “I Love This Cotton!”
- Red – 1.5 oz. (2oz. for larger sizes)
- White – 1.5 oz. (2oz. for larger sizes)
- Blue – 1.5 oz. (2oz. for larger sizes)
Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook
Notions: Yarn needle, 13 star buttons (CLICK HERE to see example)
Gauge: 16 sc = 4 inches
Pattern Notes: By stranding your yarn you will have less ends to weave in. (see Stranding under Special Stitches below)
Special Stitches:
Changing Color: Insert hook into next sc, yo, pull up a loop, take the next color and pull through both loops on hook. (you will now have the new color on your hook). Do not work in loose ends as you go. Your color changes will not look clear and will show through your work.
Stranding – Carry the unused color behind your work (if you carry your strand on the top of the previous row the colors will show through). Crochet the unused strand in with the stitches as you work, so when you are ready to change colors your new color is right there ready to use.
