Word of the Year for 2021 – Courage

Have you picked a word for the year for 2021? If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, you pick a word for the year the will be the overarching theme for the entire year. I’ve been doing it every year since 2014, but honestly I didn’t start to really take it seriously until about 4 years ago.

The results I saw when I started to take it seriously were so evident that I don’t take this whole “word of the year” thing lightly anymore. For example, last year I picked consistency and really tried to be consistent with my business the entire year. Half way through the year my husband’s cancer came back and my son went into cardiac arrest and spent 2 days on life support (he’s been diagnosed with a heart condition and thank God doing ok). Throw in a surgery for one of my daughter’s and some major dental issues for me. That’s a LOT of stuff in a 3 or 4 month period! I honestly could have just walked away from my business the last quarter of 2020. But my consistency paid off, and despite everything I still grew.

Word of the Year for 2021

If you want to pick a word but have no idea where to start, my suggestion would be to pick something that you would like to work on. I try to have a word that I can work on in my personal life as well as my business, but that’s up to you.

If you’d like some ideas, some of the words I’ve used over the years are FOCUS (2014), Believe (2015), Confidence (2016), Transform (2017), Abundance (2018), and Fearless (2019), and Confidence (2020).

If you’d like to see how you can use the word in each area of your life I’ve broken mine down below.

COURAGE

So, this year I’m determined to have the courage to do a few things that I’ve been putting off.

  • Financial: I will have the courage to put myself out there in ways that will grow my business without letting imposter syndrome get in the way.
  • Spiritual: I will be consistent in setting aside time each day to read my bible and devotionals. I know God has a plan for my life and for my business and that if I follow Him this year He will guide me.
  • Mental: I will have the courage to let go of relationships that are unhealthy.
  • Physical: I will have the courage to run my first marathon!

Now that I’ve decided to rise up and have courage, I will try to remind myself:

Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.

~ Winston Churchill

If I mess up and don’t stick with my word every day/month, it’s ok. I give myself permission to have bad days. But then I’ll pick myself up and keep moving forward.

Tip: Write your word down somewhere so that you see it every day. I write mine at the top of my monthly planner so I can see it every time I open it. Other places could be – a sticky note on your bathroom mirror or lockscreen on your phone. Wherever it’s going to remind you.

Do you pick a word for the year? What are you going to be focusin on this year? I’d love to know.

Looking forward to growing my courage in 2021!
