Beginner Headband Free Crochet Pattern

This basic headband with a cute flower is perfect for any level crocheter. Make it in a solid color or a two-tone varaiation. It’ll keep your ears warm while you keep your hair from hat head. ;)

MATERIALS


Finished Sizes: 

  • 5T-preteen – 20” circumference 
  • Adult – 22” circumference

Yarn:  #4 worsted weight – 1 oz/80 yds
Brown sample used:

  • Stitch Nation Bamboo Ewe in Snapdragon 
  • Red Heart Eco Ways Bamboo Wool in Cocoa


Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5.0 mm)

Notions: Yarn Needle

Gauge: 16 sts and 16 rows = 4” in pattern

Difficulty: Beginner: Uses easy stitches with minimal shaping.

Abbreviations

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet

BASIC HEADBAND

5T – PRETEEN

ch 4.
Row 1: sc in 2 nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (3 sc) 

Row 2: ch1, 2sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, 2sc in last sc, turn. (5 sc) 

Row 3: ch1, sc in each sc across, turn. 

Row 4: Repeat Row 2. (7 sc) 

Row 5: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 6: Repeat Row 2. (9 sc) 

Row 7: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 8: Repeat Row 2. (11 sc) 

Row 9: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 10: Repeat Row 2. (13 sc) 

Row 11 – 60: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 61: ch1, sc2tog, sc in next 9 sc, sc2tog, turn. (11 sc)

Row 64: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 65: ch1, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog, turn. (7 sc) 

Row 66: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 67: ch1, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, turn. (5 sc) 

Row 68: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 69: ch1, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog, turn. (3 sc) 

If not using border: 

Row 70: ch1, sc, slip stitch in next sc, ch6 (or amount needed to go around your button), slip stitch in same sc, sc. Fasten off. 

If using border: 

Row 70: Repeat Row 3. 



ADULT 

ch 4. 
Row 1: sc in 2 nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (3 sc) 

Row 2: ch1, 2sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, 2sc in last sc, turn. (5 sc) 

Row 3: ch1, sc in each sc across, turn. 

Row 4: Repeat Row 2. (7 sc)

Row 72: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 73: ch1, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog, turn. (7 sc) 

Row 74: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 75: ch1, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, turn. (5 sc) 

Row 76: Repeat Row 3. 

Row 77: ch1, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog, turn. (3 sc) 

If not using border: 

Row 78: ch1, sc, slip stitch in next sc, ch6 (or amount needed to go around your button), slip stitch in same sc, sc. Fasten off. 

If using border: 

Row 78: Repeat Row 3. 



BORDER 

Attach with sc to corner of headwrap. Sc in each stitch, 3sc in corner stitch, sc in end of each row down side of headwrap, 3sc in corner, sc in 2 sc on end, ch6 (or amount needed to go around your button), sc in same sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3sc in corner, sc in end of each row down side, attach with slip stitch to 1st sc. Fasten off. 



FLOWER 

With pink Ch5, join with slip stitch in 1st ch to form ring. 

Round 1: ch1, 12 sc in ring, join with slip stitch to 1st sc (12 sc). 

Round 2: ch1, sc in 1st sc, *ch3, skip next sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * around, ch3, skip last sc, slip stitch in 1st sc (6 ch3 spaces) 

Round 3: (slip stitch, sc, 3hdc, sc, slip stitch) in each ch3 space around (5 petals). 

Round 4: ch1, sc around post of 1st sc of round 2, ch4, *sc around next sc of round 2, ch5, repeat from * around, slip stitch in 1st sc changing to brown. (5 ch4 spaces) 

Round 5: (slip stitch, sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc, slip stitch) in each ch4 space around. (5 petals) 

Round 6: ch1, sc around 1st sc of round 4, ch6, repeat from * around, slip stitch in 1st sc. (5 ch6 spaces) 

Round 7: (slip stitch, sc, hdc, 2dc, htr, 2dc, hdc, sc, slip stitch) in each ch6 space around, (5 petals). Fasten off.
