How to Crochet the Reverse Single Crochet RSC – Crab Stitch

The reverse single crochet (rsc), also known as the crab stitch, is a great stitch if you’re looking for a simple, textured border.

Here are the basic steps to making the crab stitch, as well as an example of a pattern I have used it on.

Step 1: Insert hook in next stitch to the right.
Note: Most crochet stitches work right to left. The rsc works left to right.

Step 2: Yarn over (yo) and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).

Step 3: Yo and pull through both loops on hook.

PROJECTS IT’S GOOD FOR

I have found that the rsc is the perfect border for any project that may be heavier or have some stretch. The rsc helps it keep it’s shape and not stretch out. Here are a couple blankets I have added it to….

I also used it on my Berry Bliss Baby Blanket (as well as the Berry Bliss Throw). I didn’t use a contrasting color for this one, but it still adds texture and helps the blanket hold it’s shape without stretching.
