Whether you know it as the grit stitch, suzette stitch or thicket stitch, you’re at the right tutorial. No matter what you call it, it’s the same stitch. Below will teach you how to crochet it this pretty stitch combo.

The grit stitch / suzette stitch can be worked in any 2 chs + 1 extra.
1) sc in 3rd ch from hook, * skip next ch, (sc, dc) in next ch, repeat from * to last 2 chs, skip next ch, sc in last ch, turn.
2) ch1, dc in 1st sc, * skip next dc, (sc, dc) in next sc (see fig.1), repeat from * across, sc in last stitch.
I have inserted the silver hook behind the (sc, dc) from the previous row.
You will do (sc, dc) in the sc to the left. (brown stitch is the sc, white st is the dc)

When making a grit stitch, I have some squares that are not uniform. In other words, some of the designs look perfect and some of them hardly show up. What am I doing wrong?

If you are using the same hook size for all of them, it may be the yarn. Are you using variegated or ombre yarn? Sometimes patterns don’t show up as well with those color changing yarns.
