Citrus Spray Afghan Square

Posted by on May 13, 2011 in Afghan Square | 23 comments

I altered this square from one of Jan Eaton’s squares in 200 Crochet Blocks, but it was a book from the UK. I tried to convert the stitches, but didn’t use a conversion chart, so this is my version of her square. I think hers was called Sunray, but because of the color and design I’ve named mine Citrus Spray.

Again, I needed it to be twice the size of the pattern itself.  This one was fairly easy to adjust by just continuing the pattern in each round.  Your finished square will be 12″ square.

  1. >love the color..after seeing all the pretty squares I have seen, I think I am going to have to make some for myself

  2. The second page to your Citrus Spray Afghan is not printing
I am having trouble with the i and j on my e-mail it should be jsmitchell.knit@yahoo.com Thanks for your patience.

  3. It is my third page I made a mistake. Please let me know. My e-mail
want print right it is jsmitchell.knit@yahoo.com Thanks

    • I don’t know much about computers, so I’m not sure why only one page won’t print (no one else has said anything). I’ll email you a copy of the pattern and see if you can get it to print that way.

  4. what is edc? on row 4

  5. What do tr, sps, sp, and sts mean?

  6. I see no where to print this pattern

    • I’ve added a print button. You should be all set now. Thanks!

  7. Just found and made this, turned out great. Thanks!

  8. Hey I loveee this pattern!! and I’m not entirely sure..maybe I missed something as I started crocheting just a few months back..but my square doesn’t turn out the same as yours. Is it because there should be 7 repeats instead of 6 in Round 1??
Please lemme know what I’ve done wrong…thankies :)

    • I’ll break down the steps of round 1. Maybe it will be easier to understand that way.
      1) You begin with a ch4, then you treble in the 4th ch from the hook, ch2. (1st section made)
      2) (2tr, ch2) in the 4th chain from the hook. (2nd section made)
      3) repeat the (2tr, ch2) 6 more times. That will give you a total of 8 sections.

Let me know if you still need help.

  9. Question about 2)
How can u crochet in fourth chain from the hook if you just chain 2?

    • Sorry, I’m not sure what you’re referring to. The very beginning says chain 4. If you’re referring to line 2, I don’t see where it says to crochet in 4th chain. Can you clarify so I can try to help you? Thanks.

  10. II chose to make a 6 inch square. ending at round 5. It turned out beautifully.

    • Awesome! I love to hear how others take something and make it their own.

  11. the 1st row is off by a set of trebles ,if you only do 6 tbs uhave 7 total,,,,,there is 8 sets on ur first row,,, count and u will see ,i even expanded the photo

    • The beginning ch4 & 1st tr would be one. The directions (2tr, ch2) would be the second. Then it says, “repeat from * 6 times.” That makes 8. Unless I’m missing something. I’ll have it read “6 more times” and maybe that will be less confusing.

  12. on row 4 instructions tell me to make 2edc in next dc. what is edc ?

    • Hi Judy, I’m assuming by your comment after this one that you found the edc tutorial, but let me know if you still need help with it.

  13. Question: After you pcs. are made what kind of edging did you use after you sewed pcs. together?

    • I made this square for a swap I was in so I didn’t make a whole afghan. You could either whip stitch them together, or sc them together.
