Quick & Easy Chain Scarf – Free Crochet Pattern Day 5
It’s day 5 of my 12 Days of Free Crochet Patterns. Today’s pattern is my version of a Chain Scarf. I sold so many of these scarves at a craft fair I did recently, and I’ve had a lot of requests for the pattern, so here it is.
This is the quickest and easiest scarf you will ever make~! If you still have gifts to make give this one a try. They only take about 1/2 hour each. Let me know what you think.
Finished Size: One size fits most adults
Materials: For a thicker winter scarf use Lion Brand Hometown USA; for a thinner/different look use 2 or 3 strands of #4 ww yarn held together.
- Size N-13/9.00mm crochet hook
- Yarn Needle
Gauge: not important for this project
chain 1000…. yes, you read that correctly!
Wrap chain into approx. 43″ hoops; you should have approx. 10 loops (for a girls size you can wrap it into approx. 41″ hoops)
There should be a small amount of chains left over. Wrap those chains around the entire loop. Tie in the ends.
I used 2 seperate colors for this scarf. It’s easier to see the wrap because of the contrast.

Happy Crocheting!
you totally rock! Merry Christmas and Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Kristine, thank you for this chain scarf. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. Oh, that blue-purple Hometown yarn is so yummy. I made one in that yarn, and two others for gifts – using my stash!! Gotta make one for ME also. So simple, yet so chic. Thank you!!
Thank you for the feedback! I love how quick this works up too.
You lost me at chain 1000…but it is a beautiful project
Mary, give me another day or so and I’m going to add some photos to help you out.
I was initially lost at chain 1,000 too, but curiosity and a need for a quick and easy cowl, I decided to give it a shot. I chained the first 200 before a commercial break was even over!
I have now chained all 1,000 and am about to do the hoops but otherwise, I’m like 15 minutes in! Awesome so far. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome! I’ve had some requests for a better description of how to tie it together. I’ll be adding a couple of photos either today or tomorrow.
Looks like I have some catching up to do on your patterns :)
Great website!! Thanks for the great instructions for the quick and easy crochet chain scarf! I haven’t crocheted in about 25 yrs. and it lookds as though will be somewhat simple to begin crocheting.
I don’t know why but I’m confused. Do I make a knot with the ends together and then create the loops?? Or did I miss something at the end?? I’m almost done. Lol!
Anna, you just make it one very long chain. Then you make the loops and wrap one end around all the loops held together. Hope that makes sense.
Just made this with Homespun Lagoon (teal). I can’t believe how quickly I got to 1000! I just slip stitched the ends together and then wrapped the loops and wrapped the excess and weaved it in. It looks amazing! Thanks for posting this. It’s a great quick gift.
That’s great to hear!
