Crazy Life of a Crocheter

My life feels crazy and my crochet has taken a back seat! Does that happen to anyone else?

My life, for the past 2 months, has looked like this picture. Headed in all different directions and yet it still makes up a big picture. I haven’t blogged about it up until now because it has nothing to do with crocheting.  I owe SusanD, from CrochetAddictUK, a huge thank you! She emailed me to check on me and make sure everything was ok.  Honestly, I’ve thought about blogging every day. I want to sit down and write about how crazy my life has been, and let you know I haven’t forgotten about any of you, but I haven’t. Why?  Because it’s not crochet-related.

A quick summary of the past two months is this….all 7 of us had some sort of flu virus for the first 2 weeks of December. As soon as we were human again we switched to Christmas mode. I tried to get caught up on orders for crocheted items, and we jumped back in trying to get caught up on school work.  I thought the new year would slow things down but the first of the year came in a whirlwind as we thought we might move…asap.  So, we had approximately 1 week to get our house ready to put on the market. (We have 8 7 people living in a 1450 sq ft house! NOT an easy feat!)  Yesterday we got word that our offer was not accepted by the potential buyers. SO, I have a much cleaner house, and hopefully life will return to semi-normal. I miss my hook and yarn, blog reading, and interaction with all of the friends I have made in the last couple of years.

So, I’m asking now.

When you read a crochet blog do you like to have random posts about the writers personal life?

If I added posts about homeschooling my girls would you still read?  Or, do you want readers to go to a homeschooling blog for those kinds of posts?

Do you like your crochet/craft blogs to stick with what they focus on?

I’d love to hear from you!

  • Kristine, I love to hear tidbits about a blogger’s life and family! It brings us all closer and it always helps to know that we’re not alone living in crazyland. I’ve been told I should write a book as it would be a real funny read but I’m afraid all six of our kids would disown me :)

    • I believe this is what happens when we aren’t allowed a daily dose of crochet. When my life goes crazy and I can’t get a toehold on any kind of order or logic, it’s usually crochet withdrawal. So your post is about crochet-your forced withdrawal and the result of that. Pick up a hook and take an hour, even if you have to wait until everyone else is asleep. You may prefer to get up an hour before the rest. Get in your car, drive a couple of blocks then turn the engine off and crochet. You are sick, my friend, but the remedy is not hard to acquire. Pretty soon things will get back in line.

  • I’m really mostly interested in the crochet. Some blogs, like Attic24, mix in other things, like walks through the English countryside, and cute photos of her home and the town she lives in, and I enjoy those as a refreshing little escape from my suburban Dallas life. Homeschooling doesn’t sound interesting or refreshing, more like work!

  • Dear Kristine,
Thanks for sharing about your life. I think it helps us get to know you better and I too, am a home schooling mom. There are some other crafting sites that I am a part of and we are building friendships through notes about what is happening in our lives. I would love to hear about your experiences.
Hope you are all well now. My family has been passing around a cold that my hubby picked up from work and we are trying to get everyone well. Hopefully all are well soon.
    Take good care!

  • So glad you are ok and have recovered from the flu! There have been sooo many bugs going round. I love hearing about peoples lives. To be honest the more “Real” the better for me. I like getting to know the people behind the blog and what is going on in their life.

  • I enjoy reading what you post. And to be honest I being stuck in a wheelchair all the time unable to get out and about with the weather the way it is gives me a haven to read what you are doing in all aspects is a good idea.

  • I believe that crochet is part of your life. So , sharing life moments or even days of your life will make your blog more attractive – even for non-crocheters ;). I’ll still reading it with much more pleasure….Whatever it will reveal : homeschooling, recipes, patterns or ideas are always so appreciated . It’s another one’s LIFE .
    Live, laugh, love and…crochet . ;)

  • It’s nice to read bits about your life. I think it makes everyone feel more like friends.
Besides, Who doesn’t like to know that they’re not the only one whose life seems crazy?

  • I think you should share about your life; your blog should be about whatever you love. It should also be a place to share experiences, good and bad. It brings people closer together when you feel as though you know the blogger.

  • me personally like a mixture of both. i like to know everyones live is crazy like mine and never enough time to crochet as much as we like. also crochet news of new patterns or your progress on current projects. me i am still picking up from christmas and putting my shelfs back in order. so write when you can gert

  • I think we like to hear all the aspects of lives that revolve around finding the time to stitch in them. My stitching also takes a backseat occasionally as does my blogging. Keep up the good work! Your blog is appreciated here I know :)
