Baby’s Summer Sweater Set – Free Crochet Pattern

Dress your new granddaughter in this dainty summer sweater set with open trellis waves. The set works up quickly and can be ready before Sunday’s afternoon tea time.

Pattern Info


FINISHED SIZE: 0 – 3 months

YARN: #2 sport weight yarn

CROCHET HOOKSize F/5 (3.75 mm)

NOTIONS: Yarn Needle; 3 – 5/8” buttons

GAUGE: 4 dc = 1 inch

SPECIAL STITCHES

  • Double crochet 3 together (dc3tog) –[yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull uploop, yo, pull through 2 loops] 3 times, yo, pull through all 4 loops.
  • Double crochet 4 together (dc4tog) –[yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull uploop, yo, pull through 2 loops] 3 times, yo, insert hook in top of beg ch 3, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through all 5 loops.
  • Double crochet 6 together (dc6tog) –[yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull uploop, yo, pull through 2 loops] 6 times, yo, pull through all 7 loops.
  • Shell – 6 dc in indicated ch.

NOTES:

Sweater is worked from the neck down.
If you are unfamiliar with fsc, you can replace with beg ch and work ch 70, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Then continue with Row 1 of pattern.

With MC, fsc 69, turn.

Row 2: (RS) Ch 2 (does not count as dc), dc in same st as beg ch 2, dc in each of next 11 dc, *3 dc in nextdc, dc in each of next 15 dc, 3 dc in next dc**, dc in each of next 21 dc, rep from * to **, dc in last 10 dc, dc in top of beg ch 3, turn. (85 dc)

Round 1: 9 hdc in magic ring, sl st in 1st hdc to join. (9 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each hdc around, sl st in 1st hdc to join, turn. (18 hdc)

Round 3: Ch 1, hdc in 1st hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, *hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in nexthdc, rep from * around, sl st in 1st hdc to join. (27 hdc)
