Blooming Clusters Baby Set – Free Crochet Pattern

BLANKET SIZE: Approx. 28 X 28”
HAT SIZE: 0 – 3 months

YARN: Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn!
– 1 skein (7 oz.) Hot Rose (A)
– 2 skeins (14 oz.) Buttercup (B)

CROCHET HOOK: Size I/9 (5.50 mm)

NOTIONS: Yarn Needle

GAUGE: 1 square = 5 inches; after blocking

SPECIAL STITCHES

  • Beginning cluster (beg cl) – ch 1, (yo, insert hook in same sp, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook) 2 times, pull through remaining 3 loops.
  • Cluster (cl) – yo, insert hook in space indicated, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, (yo, insert hook into same space, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook) 2 times, yo, pull through remaining 4 loops.


NOTES

– Blanket size can be easily adjusted adding (or subtracting) rows and/or columns.
– To adjust border you will need an odd number of stitches, after round 1, on each side or blanket.
– If you’d like to do the flowers from scrap yarn, you will need approx. 4 yds per flower.

HAT PATTERN


0 – 3 months – (up to 14” circumference)

Begin with Magic Ring, ch 1,
Round 1: beg cl, ch 2, [cl, ch 2] 4 times in ring, sl st to 1st cl. (5 cl)

Round 2: sl st in next ch-2 sp, (beg cl, ch 2, cl, ch 2) in same ch-2 sp, *(cl, ch 2) 2 times in next ch-2 sp, rep from * around, slip stitch in top of 1st cl. (10 cl)

Round 3: sl st in next ch-2 sp, (beg cl, ch 2, cl, ch 2) in same ch-2 sp, *(cl, ch 2) 2 times in next ch-2 sp, rep from * around, slip stitch in top of 1st cl. (20 cl)

Round 4: sl st in next ch-2 sp, beg cl in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, *cl in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, rep from * around, slip stitch in top of 1st cl. (20 cl)

Round 5: sl st in next ch-1 sp, beg cl in same ch-1 sp, ch 1, *cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, rep from * around, slip stitch in top of 1st cl. (20 cl)

Round 6 – 8: Rep Rnd 5.

Round 9: ch1, sc in same st, *sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in cl, rep from * around, sl st to 1st sc changing to color B. (40 sc)

Round 10 – 11: Rep Rnd 9.
Fasten off.


FLOWER FOR HAT

Begin with Magic Ring, ch 1,
Round 1: 8 sc in ring, sl st in 1st sc. (8 sc)

Round 2: beg cl, ch 1, sl st in next sc, *ch 1, beg cl in same st, ch 1, sl st in next sc, rep from * around, sl st to first ch-1. (8 clusters) Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing to hat.


BLANKET PATTERN


SQUARE (Make 25)

Begin with Magic Ring, ch 1,
Round 1: 8 sc in ring, sl st in 1st sc. (8 sc)

Round 2: beg cl, ch 1, sl st in next sc, *ch 1, beg cl in same st, ch 1, sl st in next sc, rep from * around, sl st to first ch-1. (8 clusters) Fasten off.

Round 3: With color B, attach with sl st to any ch-1 sp on left side of cl, ch 3, *sl st in next ch-1 sp (left side of cluster), ch 3, rep from * around, sl st in beg sl st. (8 ch-3 sps)

Round 4: sl st in ch-3 sp, (beg cl, ch 4, cl, ch 1) in same ch-3 sp, *(cl, ch 1) 2 times in next ch-3 sp, (cl, ch 4, cl, ch 1) in next ch-3 sp, rep from * 2 times, (cl, ch 1) 2 times in last ch-3 sp, sl st to 1st cl. (16 cl)

Round 5: sl st in ch-4 sp, (beg cl, ch 4, cl, ch 1) in same ch-4 sp, *[cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] 3 times, (cl, ch 4, cl, ch 1) in next ch-4 sp, rep from * 2 times, [cl in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] in next 3 ch-1 sps, sl st to 1st cl. (20 cl)

Round 6: sl st in ch-4 sp, ch1, *(3 sc, ch 1, 3 sc) in ch-4 sp, [sc in top of cl, sc in ch-1 sp] across to next ch-4 sp, rep from * around, sl st to 1st sc. (60 sc) Fasten off. Weave in ends. Block to 5” squares.

Joining Squares

With color A, holding right side (RS) facing each other, whip st rows together. Fasten off. Whip stitch columns together. Fasten off.


Border


With color A, attach with sl st to any st,
Round 1: (RS) sc in each st, including a sc in seam joins, 3 sc in each ch-1 corner sp, join with sl st to 1st sc, DO NOT TURN. (should have odd number of sts on each side)

Round 2: ch 2 (does not count as dc), dc in each sc around, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner sc, join with sl st to 1st dc, DO NOT TURN.

Round 3: ch 5 (counts as dc plus ch 2), sk next dc, ch 2, *dc in next dc, ch 2, sk next dc, rep from around with (dc, ch 3, dc) in each corner ch-2 sp, join with sl st to 1st dc, DO NOT TURN. Fasten off.

Round 4: (RS) attach color B with sl st in any corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, 4 sc in same corner sp, *sc in next dc, [working behind next ch-2 sp, tr in skipped dc from round 2, sc in next dc] across to corner ch-3 sp, 4 sc in corner ch-3 sp, rep from * around, join with sl st to 1st dc. Fasten off.
