Finished Size: 

  • Preemie – 24” x 29”
  • Baby – 31.5” x 35.5”
  • Small Throw – 47.5” x 48”
  • Throw – 53” x 60”
  • Queen – 60” x 64”

Yarn: #4 worsted weight
Sample used: Mainstays Basic in Soft Grey Heather – 7 oz/397yds per skein

  • Preemie – 7.5oz/426yds
  • Baby – 18oz/1021yds
  • Small Throw – 36oz/2042yds
  • Throw – 51oz/2892yds
  • Queen – 61oz/3460yds

Hook Size: Tunisian J/10 (6 mm) cable hook Please Note: For the smaller size blankets, you can use either a straight Tunisian or cable hook.

Notions: Yarn Needle

Skill Level: Beginner – Uses basic Tunisian stitches with no shaping.

Gauge: 2 repeats x 18 rows = 5″ in pattern

Notes: 

  • Pattern can be adjusted in multiples of 10+7. 
  • Pattern is written in preemie size with (baby, sm throw, throw, queen) in parentheses.
  • There is no turning during this project. All rows are with RS facing.
  • You can use a regular hook for the bind off row. 
  • Tip – If the bind off row is too loose/wide you can go down a hook size.

Special Stitches: 

  • Tps (Tunisian Purl Stitch) – bring yarn in front of hook, insert hook behind vertical bar, move yarn behind hook, yo, pull up loop.
  • Tks (Tunisian Knit Stitch) – insert hook between 2 vertical bars of next st, yo, pull up loop. 
  • RetP (Return Pass) – Yo, pull through 1 loop, *yo, pull through 2 loops, rep from * across until 1 stitch remains on hook. 
  • BO (Bind Off) – insert yarn through next st (in whatever manner would be your next st – tps or tks), yo, pull through both loops on hook (like you would for a sl st).

Ch 127.
Row 1: Insert hook in back ridge of 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up loop, *insert hook in back ridge of next ch, yo, pull up loop, repeat from * across. RetP. (see Special Stitches).

Row 2: Skip 1st vertical bar, tps in next 6 sts, *tks in next 3 sts, tps in next 7 sts, repeat from * across to last st, insert hook through both loops of last st. RetP.

Row 3: Repeat Row 2. 

Row 4: Skip 1st vertical bar, tps in next st, *tks in next 3 sts, tps in next 7 sts, repeat from * across to last 2 sts, tps in next st, insert hook through both loops of last st and pull up loop. RetP. 

Rows 5 – 6: Repeat Row 4. 

Rows 7 – 9: Repeat Row 2. 

Rows 10 – 120: Repeat Row 2. 

Bind Off Row: Skip 1st st, tps or tks bo (see Special Stitches) in each st across. 

Fasten off.

Border (optional)

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around working 3 sc in each corner st, sl st in 1st sc to join. Fasten off
