How to Work the Crochet Bean Stitch with Alternating Dc Rows

MATERIALS


Finished Sizes: 5″ tall x 200 sts wide


Yarn:  #4 worsted weight
Sample used: Lion Brand Wool-Ease – Dark Rose Heather – 5.6oz/160g, 368yds/336m


Crochet Hook: Size I/9 (5.5 mm)

Notions: Yarn Needle

Gauge: 13 reps x 10 rows = 4” in pattern

Difficulty: Adv Beginner – Uses basic stitch combination with post stitches to create texture.


Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • sc – single crochet
  • yo – yarn over

Notes: 

  • To adjust size, work beg chain in multiples of 2+1. 


Special Stitches: 

  • Bean stitch – insert hook in next st, yo, pull up loop, [yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull up loop] 2 times, (6 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook.  





CROCHET BEAN STITCH WITH ALTERNATING DC ROWS

Ch 201. (if you’re working the Adventure Blanket and this is not strip 1, skip to row 1)

Row 1: (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (200 sc)

Row 2: (WS) Ch 1, hdc in first st, *bean st in next st, ch 1, sk next st, rep from * across, hdc in last st, turn. (99 bean sts, 2 hdc)  

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in first st, bean st in top of bean st (eyelet hole from prev row), ch 1, rep from * across, hdc in last st, turn. 

Row 4: Rep Row 3. 

Row 5: Ch 1, dc in first st, *sk next st, 2 dc in next st (eyelet hole from prev row), rep from * across, dc in last st, turn. (200 dc)

Row 6: Rep Row 2.  

Row 7: Rep Row 5.  

Row 8: Rep Row 2.  

Row 9: Rep Row 5.  

Row 10: Rep Row 2.  

Row 11-12: Rep Row 3.  

Row 13: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch across.

Fasten off.
