Fall Pumpkin Leaf – Free Crochet Pattern
I had a request (thank you Robin) for a pumpkin leaf crochet pattern to go with my pumpkin hat pattern.
Because I tried so hard to get my pumpkin stem to look ‘real’, I figured I would do the same with the leaf. Not as easy as it sounds….at least not for me. I didn’t want the leaf really big, seeing as many of these hats are made for infants/babies and used for photo shoots.
Leaf Pattern
Yarn: #4 ww yarn
Hook: H/8 (5 mm)
Pattern:
Ch 14, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next 8 chs. (stem made)
Rnd 1: (Sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc) in next ch, (dc, hdc) in next ch, (hdc, sc) in next ch, 3 sc in last ch, you will now be working down the back side of the leaf, (sc, hdc) in next ch, (hdc, dc) in next ch, (2 dc, 2 hdc, sc) in last ch, turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 3 dc in 1st st, dc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts, (2 sc, hdc) in next st, hdc in each of next 4 sts, 3 sc in end st, hdc in each of next 4 sts, (hdc, 2 sc) in next st, hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next st, 3 dc in last st, sl st in same st as last dc. Fasten off.
It looks great…makes a perfect little addition!!!
Thanks :)
The leaf will add to some nice detail to the hat.
Thank you very much for this great leaf pattern. I needed a pattern for my grandaughters pumpkin beanie and this worked great!
Thanks for the feedback, Donna. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for the great pattern. I’d like to share a correction as my leaf was looking lopsided.
Ch 13, sl st in the 2nd chain from the hook and in the next 7 sts (not 8).
Round 1 – (sc, 2hdc, 2dc) in the first st, (dc, hdc) in the next, ADD “(hdc, sc) in the next stitch”.
This leaves 3 worked stitches before the 3sc in the middle of the leaf, and matches the other side of the pattern.
Thank you again for the pumpkin leaf pattern. It adds a great finalized look. :)
I’ll try to give it a try this way when I get a chance. Thanks for the tip!
great minds think alike- I made the same correction!!
Ther is an error because i can´t . I need more spaces
Carmen, I know others have made it without any count issues. Did you figure it out?
There is an error in the pattern. RACHELC’s correction fixes the problem. Otherwise there are not enough stitches after the stem is done to continue with the leaf.
I’ll recheck it again. Some don’t have any issues and others do. I’ll sit down and double check it again. Maybe I can find a way to make it work for everyone and not just some. Thanks for the feedback.
I am not an expert by any means but I am having some trouble, for example: Is round 1 the three stitches left after you slip stitch in the next 8 stitches? Also, in round 1 it says you will be working down the back side of the leaf – is a turn involved? – I felt like you would say ‘turn’ if that was the case. I love this leaf for my pumpkin hat – can you please help? Thank you!
I’m going to try to write up a visual to help with this pattern. Hopefully I’ll have it up by tomorrow.
Thank you!
Did you ever post the visual? I’m having trouble with round 1 ” you’ll be working down the “back side”? I love the look of the leaf. Thanks
Hi Carole, I haven’t done the visual yet, but I did rework the pattern. Let me know if you still have trouble with it. I’ll try to get to the visual today I’ve just been super busy with a publisher deadline.

Also confused by this same point.

Hi Jo, I reworked the pattern. Please let me know if you still have trouble with it.

Awesome, Lisa! Thank you for sharing.
Trying leaf. Has not worked yet
Which part is not working for you?
For the pumpkin hats I’ve been making I just do the first round of this leaf. Thank you for such an easy and wonderful leaf pattern.
Such a cute little leaf! Thank you so much for sharing your adorable pattern!
If someone is having a difficult time understanding the pattern, it helped me to go back and look at the finished product, and suddenly it clicked in my brain! It is a very cute, somewhat wavy (as it would be in nature) pumpkin leaf.
Thanls again for sharing your pattern! <3
I’m so glad you like it!
Thanks for this pattern! I did it in #10 thread and a size six needle! It worked out so cute! I didn’t have a dark green thread so my leaves are light sage green, but they are perfect!
Oh, yay! I’m so glad to hear that!
Worked up three leaves so far. I worked all three with different size hooks found that 4.0 works fine for the size I need, Thanks for the pattern.
Glad you liked the pattern!
Hello! I see in the comments that you reworked the pattern to clarify the “you will now be working down the back side of the leaf” part, but I’m still confused on how this works. Can you please explain? Thanks!
It’s referring to the opposite side of the beginning chain.
