Royal Bloom – Free Blanket Square Crochet Pattern
This crochet blanket square pattern features a simple yet eye-catching design made with crisp white and rich royal blue for a striking contrast. The bold color pairing highlights the classic granny technique — making a granny square in the round. At 6″ wide x 6″ tall, the Royal Bloom Granny Square is perfect for making multiples that can easily be joined together to create a beautiful and striking blanket.

The Inspiration Behind the Design
March is always a super busy month for my business. I run my annual birthday sale (3/1) and it’s my business anniversary (3/17) so I usually run some sort of sale or event for that as well. But this year I’m taking part in the International Crochet Month event being held over at Underground Crafter. I am a big advocate for celebrating crochet, so I figured this was the perfect way to share the love.
I decided to make and share a blanket square because, well, blankets are my favorite. Make them all in the same 2 colors, or use your leftover yarn and make them in all different colors. Whatever you choose it will be stunning!

Notes:
- Changing color every round gives the square a unique way to make the colors pop.
- Gauge is not too important with this square. Just make sure if you are making multiple squares (ex: for a blanket) that your gauge stays the same so all the squares will be the same size.
Special Stitches:
- Magic Ring – for tutorial, please see How to Make a Magic Ring.
- blo (back loop only) – work the stitch as normal, but only into the back loop (instead of both as normal).
- Shell – 5 dc in indicated st.
