How to Corner to Corner Crochet

Corner to corner crochet, also known as c2c, is a crochet pattern that works from one corner (usually bottom right). You will increase stitches until you have the width and height for the project you are working. Then you will decrease until you reach the opposite corner (usually top left).

Many corner-to-corner patterns use colorwork to make pictures and/or words. It’s also great for self-striping yarn and even just a solid textured look.

The instructions below are for a basic c2c pattern and do not include any color changes. Once you get the hang of the stitches adding color changes is fairly easy.

HOW TO CORNER TO CORNER CROCHET


Basic C2C Instructions


Ch 5,
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (skipped 2 chs counts as 1st hdc here and throughout), hdc in next 2 chs, turn. (1 box made)

Row 2: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 2 chs, sl st in ch-2 sp (of prev row’s block), ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc), 3 hdc in same ch-2 sp, turn. (2 blocks)

Row 3: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 2 chs, *sl st in ch-2 sp (of prev row’s block), ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc), 3 hdc in same ch-2 sp, rep from * across, turn. (3 blocks)

Rep Row 3, increasing 1 block each row.

Dec Row: Sl st in next 2 hdc of last block made, *sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 2, 3 hdc in same ch-2 sp, rep from * across to last block of prev row, sl st in ch-2 sp, turn (do not inc).
