Soulmate Blanket Square – Free Crochet Pattern

Pattern Info

Finished Size: 8″ square

Yarn: #4 worsted weight
Sample used: Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek in Crisp Air – 1 oz/50 yds

Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm)

Difficulty: Adv Beginner: Uses beginner stitches, post stitches, and increases.

Stitches Used:

beg cl – beginning cluster (used as the first cl of a round)
cl – cluster
cl v-st – cluster v-stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
yo – yarn over

Notes: 

  • To change the size, add more or less rounds.
  • Gauge is not too important with this square. Just make sure if you are making multiple squares (ex: for a blanket) that your gauge stays the same. That way they will all be the same size. 

Special Stitches:

  • Magic Ring – for tutorial, please see How to Make a Magic Ring
  • Beginning cluster (beg cl) – (Ch 2, dc) in first ch-1 sp. (ch 2 and dc counts as beg cl).
  • Cluster (cl) – yo, insert hook in next ch-sp, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, insert hook in same ch-sp, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through 3 loops on hook. 
  • Cluster v-st (cl v-st) – (cl, ch 1, cl) in same st or sp.

Soulmate Blanket Square

Make magic ring,
Round 1: Working in magic ring for entire round, ch 2, dc in magic ring (ch 2 & dc count as cl), ch 1, cl, ch 3, [cl v-st, ch 3] 3 times, sl st in first cl to join. (8 clusters)

Round 2: Sl st in ch-1 sp, cl v-st in same ch-1 sp, *(cl, ch 3, cl) in ch-3 sp, cl v-st in next ch-1 sp, rep from * around, sl st in first cl to join. (16 clusters)

Round 3: Sl st in ch-1 sp, cl v-st in same ch-1 sp, *(cl v-st, ch 3, cl v-st) in ch-3 sp, cl v-st in next ch-1 sp, rep from * around, sl st in first cl to join. (24 clusters)

Round 4: Sl st in ch-1 sp, cl v-st in same ch-1 sp, cl v-st in next ch-1 sp, *(cl, ch 3, cl) in ch-3 sp, [cl v-st in next ch-1 sp] 3 times, rep from * around, sl st in first cl to join. (32 clusters)

Round 5: Sl st in ch-1 sp, cl v-st in same ch-1 sp, cl v-st in next ch-1 sp, *(cl v-st, ch 3, cl v-st) in ch-3 sp, [cl v-st in next ch-1 sp] 3 times, rep from * around, sl st in first cl to join. (40 clusters)

Round 6: Sl st in ch-1 sp, cl v-st in same ch-1 sp, [cl v-st in next ch-1 sp] 2 times, *(cl, ch 3, cl) in ch-3 sp, [cl v-st in next ch-1 sp] 5 times, rep from * around, sl st in first cl to join. (48 clusters)

Round 7: Ch 1, *[2 sc in ch-1 sp, sc in each of next 2 cl] across to corner, (4 sc, ch 1, 4 sc) in corner sp, repeat from * around, sl st in first sc to join.
