Soulmate Beanie Crochet Pattern

This beanie crochet pattern was designed specifically for chemo patients. I have had this privilage of joining the Crochet Cancer Challenge for as many years as Christine has been hosting it, and every year I want to make something meaningful. Some years I do it to support the many that are struggling. Other years it I do it because it’s personal. This year I chose skin cancer because it currently hits closest to home for me.

If you haven’t heard of the Crochet Cancer Challenge here is a quick rundown. You receive a free pattern (the offer is for a limited time). In exchange for that pattern, you pledge to make at least 1 of that hat and donate it to cancer patients, or a treatment center. The challenge runs through the month of October, which is cancer awareness month.

WHY I CHOSE SKIN CANCER

One of my best friends has had a few skin samples test positive and currently gets regular scans. It felt fitting to create the Soulmate Chemo Hat this year to support him and all those who have been diagnosed with skin cancer.

The joined clusters remind me of 2 souls that are meant to be joined together. So, that’s where the name for the hat came from.

Honestly, cancer has taken it’s tole on my family. The past 5 years have been the hardest years of my adult life. In addition to the physical tole it takes on people, it also takes mental tole. The journey has been a struggle for my family and I would never wish this on my worst enemy.

I wrote the following for the Hope Lives Chemo Hat that I made for the challenge in 2018, but I end up sharing it every year. We need to remember there are so many people out there struggling to keep their hope alive. Hopefully these hats will help just a bit.

So, this year, I pray my hat can be a reminder to keep your hope alive and never give up.

  • Something is not working correctly. I click on the download link above which takes me to Ravelry. I click on “buy it now” and then “use coupon code; ” a window comes up saying the magnolia coupon code has expired.

    • Hmmm, I’m not sure. I did have one other person that had the same issue and they refreshed their screen and it worked. I did extend the sale so if you didn’t get it to work you can try again until 10/10/23.

  • Hello Kristine!  I love your Soulmate beanie!  I started to make the beanie for the cancer crochet challenge and needed help on understanding Round 4.  Does the repeat of *[cl v-st in next ch-1 sp] 3 times, (cl v-st, ch 1 cl) in next ch-1 sp, rep from * around – all stitched in the ch-1 sp indicated or is it each next ch-1 sp?  I’ll probably same assistance with Round 5 and 6.  Sorry I’m an intermediate crocheter but need more clarity. :)  Thanks

    • The brackets (first part of line instructions) are one cl v-st in each of next 3 ch-sps.
The parentheses are all in the same ch-sp.
      Does that help?

  • Hi Kristine, I’m trying to make the Soulmate Beanie, but it looks nothing like the images! I’m sure it’s me doing something wrong, but not sure what I’m doing wrong. Do you have a video that shows how to do the clusters and which Ch-Sp they go into? Mine are looking like granny squares clusters and there are big holes where the clusters go into the ch-sp, which looks nothing like the stitches on the image of the finished hat. Any thoughts or suggestions?
